The Naam Disaster
I had heard such good things about The Naam before finally going to it. Being a vegan for so many years it was great to go to a restraunt that served mostly vegan or at least vegetarian menu items and some organic options. I've since started eating sustainable fish/seafood (so my options are less limited now!)
I had tried a few times to go to Naam, when I lived in Kits, I used to walk by, and there was always this rediculous long lineup outside. One day I managed to get in without much of a wait. And I figured, it must be really good for such a lineup. But no. Was just an extremely tiny restraunt with only one server for all the tables.
I ordered a blueberry soyshake for a starting drink, and sesame fries with miso dressing for starters. Took a way too long for shake to arrive, and it was room temperature by the time it did. (however, was nice and smooth.. yum!)
The fries also took a long time to show up, and I tried to ignore the dirty utensils/plates... (they may be hippies, but Vinegar is a natural way to sparkle up glass without chemicals, so no excuse!) But the fries were pretty yummy :)
Most of the menu items looked kind of sketchy, but went with an asian inspired noodle stirfry (probably a bad choice to go with in the first place) the other person I was with got a rice dish.
By the time our food came, we were both so hungry we were already in a bad mood, and began to shovel food in our mouths. Wow. I wasn't really aware food could taste that BLAND. We both could not eat our meals after a few bites. Even my friend who would eat garbage off the floor wouldn't touch it. I believe the organic greens were delicious however.
We then just left. The service was terrible, the place was a mess and the food was really really horrible. I love the fact that it's a 24hr place, and one thing I would possibly like to try (if I was ever around there at that early in the morning) would be their vegan pancakes, but they stop serving them so early.. isn't really feasible.
A HUGE disappointment, I so wanted to enjoy that place. At least other people seem to enjoy it, and it's good to have an option for people who have restrictive diets to have a place that's open 24hours, and also another place that serves organic food.
But despite that, I would not wish upon anyone the misfortune of consuming their food. Ugh.
