This sounds so interesting. Reminds me of one of my favorite books with this theme. Very sarcastic and hilarious. Can't wait to see what I come up with!

I agree with what Karen has said, I will see if I can try to get one for you, I like writing this type of thing.

Deborah, I had all the intention of creating just a small short story based on this theme, but I think it's turning more like a novel. I don't know how it happened, but the ideas just kept pouring. It's a flowing river now lol.

I just wrote a small summary of the story and I immediately fell in love with it and I haven't even began writing it! haha. I'm even creating the title of the novel. Halfway done with that part. Hopefully I get to post something up here for you and everyone to read. It might take a few days, but I can guarantee that it will be worth it.

That is great. I'll have to read it. Don't worry if you post it as a novel. I'm just glad you got some inspiration from the idea. Let me know when you get it done.

I saw this a couple of nights ago and was so inspired that I stopped working on all my other projects to give this some time. I haven't been very active in the SS community as of late - as you may or may not have noticed - due to a ton of things occupying most of my time. I was immediately grabbed by this idea and I was even more amazed when an idea just popped in my head. And I got right to work. I'm on page 7 right now, but its turning out very nice. I hope to have it posted within a day or two. I think I will take a good long break from my work. I need to. I'm burning out, lolz. I am currently working on a new Zombie Novelette and editing my 2 Vampire Novels as well as putting together a Business Plan for my New Publishing Business "Hellflower Publishing" that I am hoping to have started by winter. Been so very busy lately but I think its time for me to come back and do some reading.

@ Jan & Karen - I can't wait to see what you both have written. I'm sure they'll be great whatever they are!

@ Deborah - I think this is a great and original idea for an Exercise! Awesome! How did you come up with this? I mean, what inspired this Exercise?

I know what you mean Daniel. The novels aren't gonna write themselves lol.

I don't know why I didn't came across this, probably cause I was so busy before. The only problem for me would be figuring out the location on which the story will revolve around. I'm trying to stick to reality here and it's biting me...hard. I think this might be the first time I will actually commit in writing and finishing a novel. When I think of all the work, it's overwhelming, but hopefully it turns out good. Can't wait to read of what you guys come up with:) Happy Writing!

@Daniel, I came up with this shortly after Valentines day. I just wanted to come up with something a little unique for the holiday and thats what I came up with. Can't wait to read all of your stories.

This is a first draft of an idea that I came up with for this...but It doesn't entirely fit the challenge. and its a little long! hope you like it!

Cupid.
An account of mistakes, I suppose everyone should have one. An account of lost beliefs and harsh realizations; when reality comes to bite you in the ass. When you realize that your good intentions drove someone to hell practically gift-wrapped.

Love. It’s a messed up trade.

It being my job for the last millennia, I would know. I thought I knew everything, love was the conquering force of the universe, no one was worse off by having someone to cherish by their side. Which is when I decided to hook up my buddy, it was the least I could do.

The path to hell… it isn’t always paved with your own good intentions.

Sandman.
You know what cherubs are like? They’re like insects constantly buzzing in your ear and as soon as you turn toward them to say what-the-fuck they switch around to your other ear. A constant hum of poetry and singing and cooing and all the gooey phony shit I deal with in the dreamscape every goddam day.

And to put the icing on the cake, one of them happens to be my best friend.

Who I am seriously considering the many ways I can murder, maim and kill him.

“Sandy she’s perfect for you! I’m telling you mortal is the way to go! All the guys are going for them now! I mean have you seen how popular the vamps are right now? And this girl I found is completely into the whole… mystery shtick.”

“Listen dumbass, the only way I can even talk to mortals is through dreams. There is no way in hell I’m going to flit into her subconscious. Even if I wanted to, it’s not possible. Now why don’t you go hook up a couple that actually makes fucking sense.”

He pouts at me. He actually fucking pouts at me, buzzing around in circles so I can’t get my work done, looking at me and sighing like its somehow my fucking fault he’s such a fucking retard that can’t understand simple fucking….

“I’ll meet her in her next dream alright! Goddamit!”

A smile and a wave, and he’s gone.

Fuck.

Rose.
I’m standing on a plain, wild horses ride across rainbows made of sugar. The moon shines across from the sun and the grass smells like summer. I’m wearing a simple dress, the kind that stops at your knees and you don’t have to worry about getting it dirty or washing it by hand. A ginger horse nuzzles my hand and I turn to it…

And there’s a man riding it.

A man I can describe in a thousand ways and yet no words fit him. A man that rides on sand and night. A man that takes my hand and apologizes for disturbing me, than asks if he can stay for a while.

“My name is Rose.” I say “ I feel like I know you already.”

Sandman.
“This is wrong” my voice rings aloud in the dreamscape, a testament to how fucked I am. “The Waking and the Sleep can never be together, why the hell did I listen to him!”

Distortions whirl around, reflecting my mood, causing nightmares.

“fucking Cupid…I love her, and now I’ve ruined her…”

Rose.
I have to sleep. Sleep is when I’m happy, sleep is when I see him. When he rides down on sunset sand and lifts me in the air, the sky exploding in color and his lips tasting like midnight.

I take another pill.

We’ll ride across rainbows into golden ponds and float together with the tiger lilies. He’ll hold onto my hand, I’ll hum our song.

Another pill.

And I dream.

Cupid.
Her hair is oily and sticks to the pillowcase. Nails broken and ragged as they itch and scratch, ribs poke out across stretched skin that no longer see’s true sunlight. Her breathing is deep, a smile across her lips.

“What have I done?” I float over her, watching her smile and coon in sleep, while her body aches and dies in waking. I told him to love her and he did. And now she’s dying. But I can fix it. I can stop them, stop her from killing herself, stop him from going to her. This was the first time I saw him love, the first time he smiled and the first time he was truly heartbroken.

He knows their love is killing her, he just can’t bring himself to end it. But I will.

“I am sorry for this Rose. I didn’t realize…”

And I end it. I end her love for him.

Sandman.
“She dreams normally now, I can tell that much…”

Cupid isn’t stupid, he knows I’m not okay, hell he’s my best friend. And he gave me the greatest and most painful thing you can give someone. The opportunity to love.

“Sandy…It was never supposed to be like this-”

“Then how the hell was it supposed to be?!” I heard screams, screams of dreamers being dragged into my agony. Fuck ‘em. “ You should have known better than this! I loved her! Are you happy?! I LOVED HER!” My voice is hoarse and unforgiving, IhatehimIhatehimIhatehimGODDAMIT!

“I was naïve and you paid for it… I won’t ever let it happen again. I promise.”

And he left.

Millennia went by, dreams evolved and stayed the same. People went on in waking, living true lives. I sat in the dreaming and remembered. I remembered it all.

That is all I can do.

Thanks for the prompt, Deborah. I did not use this one to start a story but to continue a story that seemed to be headed in an overdone direction. Cupid allowed for a viewpoint shift and added new dimensions to a continuing story.

Alicia, that was a very unique idea. I like how you had cupid work his magic on the sandman, then to have Rose so much in love as to take pills to be with the sandman. Good job. Thanks for responding to the lesson.
