Career Path.

For the past 5 years of my life, I had my mind set on becoming a writer. As I do more research and look into it more, it seems like a difficult field to get into. I'm thinking of becoming an expert editor since my major is English but I also know that with an English major I can chose from a few career choices. What do you all think? I already am asked to edit people's writings even homework and I feel that it's my strong point.

There certainly are a lot of jobs in Editing if you enjoy the work. If you have your mind set on becoming a writer; you should endeavor to become a writer. The two do go hand in hand and both will help you to perform the other task.

I edited for Oxford Univesity Press for three years. 22 books in 26 months. It nearly killed me as editing is a very very very very very lengthy and technical thing. Also, it doesnt pay that much. How about a course in media studies and journalism. That way you can work for a big newspaper and get paid better too, or join the advertising and media world where they need writers and copywriters all the time.

Thank you Cindy and Asma. There is so many careers out there, it's hard to decide!

Asma, I will really think about the editing now... or at least the exact field I want to go in.
