Its Forty years since we wed
When those words 'I do' were said
Forty years we’ve stuck together
Our choice, like birds of a feather.
First of April was that day
Fools or foolish one might say
To meet and to marry so soon
In six months, our honeymoon.
Nine months later, a daughter born
So happy were we, talked till dawn
Fifteen months later, another one
To feel complete, we tried for a son.
Destiny dictates, what’s meant for us
For every heart-ache, there is a plus
Life is so precious, life is just great
Two healthy daughters, for goodness sake!
Our road in life has been quite challenged
Yet that road was also well balanced
A feast or a famine, we’re used to it now
Those rewards keep on coming, anyhow.
We shared laughter, we shed tears
And survived some turbulent years
We still laughed and we still cried
That’s life, for this groom and his bride.
We travelled the globe, fortunately
Exciting it was, for we felt so free
Faith was good to us, for we believed
The seed was planted, so we conceived.
Our daughters are now both married
Three children, one of them carried
The grandees’ give us youthful love
We retirees, thank the Lord above.
When we look back on our time together
We survived just like our changing weather
We've lived a life that’s full of wonder
We kept our vows, we did not go under.
Regrets, we’ve had a few, but then again, too few to mention,
We did what we had to do and saw it through, without exemption
We’ve lived a life that’s full; we’ve travelled each and every byway
And more, much more than this, we did it, OUR WAY.
